Pumpkin Better Than Sex Cake

Pumpkin better than sex cake is a pumpkin-spiced 9x13 spice cake soaked with sweetened condensed milk and caramel, then finished with a whipped topping and toffee bits. The poke-holes step lets the caramel and milk absorb for a moist, layered texture in every slice.

Ingredients

Pumpkin spice cake base
  • 1 box spice cake mix Use the ingredients listed on the box (eggs, oil, water) in the amounts directed.
  • 0.5 cup pumpkin puree Add to the cake batter.
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice Add to the cake batter.
Caramel and milk soak
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk Pour over the hot cake to soak into the holes.
  • 0.5 cup caramel sauce Pour over the top, then chill to absorb.
  • 1 cup toffee bits Scatter over the whipped topping.
  • 1 serving extra caramel sauce for drizzling Drizzle over the top just before serving (or after the whipped layer).
Whipped topping layer
  • 8 oz whipped topping Thawed. Spread over the chilled cake.

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan
  • 1 9x13 baking dish

Method

Bake the pumpkin spice cake
  1. Preheat the oven to the temperature listed on the spice cake mix box and grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. Make the spice cake batter per box instructions, then stir in pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice until smooth.
  3. Bake in the 9x13 pan for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean and the top springs back when lightly pressed.
Soak with milk and caramel
  1. While the cake is hot, use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the surface, spacing them evenly so the soak reaches everywhere.
  2. Pour the sweetened condensed milk over the hot cake, letting it flow into and down through the holes.
  3. Pour the caramel sauce over the top evenly.
  4. Refrigerate for 60 minutes until the caramel has started to absorb and the surface looks set.
Finish with whipped topping
  1. Spread the whipped topping over the chilled cake in an even layer.
  2. Scatter the toffee bits over the whipped topping, then drizzle with extra caramel sauce.
  3. Refrigerate at least 60 more minutes before serving so the layers firm up and slice cleanly.

Notes

For the best soak, wait until the cake is hot from the oven before poking holes and pouring the condensed milk—this helps everything absorb without pooling. Refrigerate leftovers covered for up to 4 days; freeze is not recommended because whipped topping texture can break down. For a lighter option, use sugar-free caramel sauce and a reduced-sugar whipped topping if desired.
