In a large bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, eggs, salt, and pepper until the mixture is smooth. Stir in 1.5 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese and the cooked sausage.

Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish. Pour the egg and sausage mixture evenly into the bottom of the dish. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the egg mixture.
Step 4: Bake and Finish
Bake in a preheated 375°F (190°C) oven for 40 minutes. Remove the dish from the oven, sprinkle the remaining 0.5 cup of cheese over the top, and return to the oven for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the casserole is set in the center.
